Assignment of a support mother "marraine"

This activity is the most important for les Amies de l’allaitement.

All a pregnant woman needs to do is contact us and we will assign her to a "marraine". Then during telephone calls or meetings the mother to be may ask questions and share her concerns with her "marraine". To be assigned a "marraine" please contact us.

Recruiting and training of new "marraine"

Recruitment is continuous at les Amies de l’allaitement. We are always looking for volunteers. If becoming a "marraine" interests you, please contact us.

Continual training of the "marraine"

Our "marraines" are continually up dating their knowledge and skill. They receive training on the new techniques in breastfeeding given by other breastfeeding groups such as La ligue la Leche, Nourri-Source and conferences on mothering, prenatal issues, listening techniques and problem solving.

Prenatal class about breastfeeding offered to future parents

Les Amies de l’allaitement participate in the prenatal classes offered by the local CLSC. A "marraine" co-animates the breastfeeding section with the nurse responsible for the prenatal classes.

Telephone help and support

The "marraines" are available to answer your questions and concerns by telephone. Telephone support is our principal intervention once you are assigned a "marraine". If you are assigned a "marraine" you will receive a call towards the end of your pregnancy and another once you have returned home from the birth of your child.

For all questions do not hesitate to call your "marraine". It will be her pleasure to answer them for you. This resource is available to you throughout the breastfeeding process and even during the weaning process.

Home and hospital visits

The "marraine" ,at the mother's request, can make home or hospital visits following childbirth to help with specific problems or simply to verify the position of the baby, the mother, the baby's latch, suction (etc.) in order to reassure the mother.

Participation in défi-allaitement(breastfeeding challenge)

The défi-alllaitement's goal is to have the maximum amount of breastfeeding mothers in the same place at the same time. This activity is a worldwide event which happens towards the end of September each year.

Café-rencontre-allaitement

Various courses and workshops

Les Amies de l’allaitement organise various course and workshops for members such as, baby massage, natural care for children, baby carriers, etc. These courses are offered for a minimal charge and are used to strengthen the mother-child bond and to develop various ways to parent our children.

Fund raising activities

In order to do all these activities Les Amies de l’allaitement must find ways to raise funds. Our principal fund raising activity is the sale of our products connected to breastfeeding or parenting.
