Composed of volunteer mothers, the group Les Amies de l’Allaitement de la Matawinie (The Friends of Breastfeeding of the Matawinie) was created in 1989 and was incorporated in 1992. Since its beginnings, the group has had three main objectives: to support breastfeeding families and pregnant women who wish to breastfeed; to promote breastfeeding to the healthcare system, women, couples, to pregnant and breastfeeding women (and their immediate environment)...; finally, to inform all mentioned groups of people, by using various meetings and other activities given throughout the year.
Les Amies de l’Allaitement de la Matawinie's services are offered in the Matawinie Ouest area, in the Lanaudière region. We serve in particular the villages and small municipalities of Rawdon, Chertsey, St-Donat, Ste-Marcelline-de-Kildaire, Notre-Dame-de-la-Merci, Entrelacs, St-Côme and St-Alphonse-Rodriguez.
Since 1989 our group of volunteers has helped hundreds of breastfeeding mothers, couples, and families. Also, and most importantly, hundreds of newborns, infants and toddlers who thanks to breastfeeding, will have been given a wonderful (and nutritious!!) start in life.
Today still, our volunteer mothers offer their services in order to humanize this natural process, breastfeeding. All the while respecting the choices and wishes of each mother. Les Amies de l’Allaitement de la Matawinie is able to stand the test of time because, as our name indicates, we are mothers and women with a common passion: breastfeeding, but we are also friends!
